Easy to produce but relatively hard to get a hit. Just like Hollywood.
The new YT business model is to steal a mainstream video from somewhere, and add your logo or affiliate codes at the end. Basically the same thing they've done in porn for several years. On the plus side, YT will can your ass if they get more than a couple copyright complaints, whereas for adult tubes they let you continue to submit stolen videos.
You can only get the overlay ads if you can prove copyright ownership. Those pay the best, and directly, because it's a profit share. YT is relatively closed with their partner program, though recently they made some changes to open up the program a bit. Apart from record companies, which get a sweetheart deal, there are still just a few thousand partners that contribute videos, and the top few hundred make high 6 low 7 figures a year.
